VERO BEACH, FL - (August 30, 2010) - On August 12, 2010, seventeen volunteers completed the VNA Hospice volunteer training program.
The six-day, twenty-two hour training program gives volunteers a better understanding of unique circumstances they may encounter while working in the hospice program. The training also incorporates VNA hospice history, facts, philosophy, vision, and goals into the program, as well as information on grief and loss, spiritual and comfort care, hospice ethics, active listening, and communicating with compassion.
After completion of the training program, each volunteer meets with volunteer department associates to discuss and determine what role the volunteer wishes to assume, and also to ensure they are equipped to handle the challenges a VNA hospice volunteer may face. Subsequently, the newly trained volunteers begin closely working alongside VNA Hospice associates, gaining vital knowledge of the VNA Hospice program.
According to VNA Volunteer Manager, Tracey Soethe, about sixty percent of VNA Hospice volunteers have had a personal experience with VNA Hospice services and are looking for a way to give back to the program.
VNA Hospice volunteer training is offered four times a year. If you are interested in participating in the next training session in October, please contact Tracey Soethe at 772.978.5553 or tsoethe@vnatc.com.
