National Healthcare Decisions Day is an initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.
Celebrate with the VNA
The Visiting Nurse Association of the Treasure Coast is encouraging community members to make their healthcare decisions known by filling out their complimentary copy of Five Wishes, a five-step advance directive that is simple to complete and becomes a legal document when signed.
Here’s an important question to ask yourself: When is the right time to designate someone to speak for you in case of serious illness? When you're in good health or when you’re in a coma? The answer, of course, is to designate someone now, when you are in good health and have the ability to do so.
You may be reluctant to talk about your medical wishes in case of a serious illness or end of life, but too often the result is family conflict and confusion at a time when you are most vulnerable... and can't speak for yourself.
